This is the most famous novel of the English writer Henry Rider Haggard, dedicated to the struggle of the Aztecs, the natives of Mexico, against the brutal Spanish conquerors, led by Hernando Cortes. The main character, the Englishman Thomas Wingfield, who went to Spain to find his mother's killer, inadvertently finds himself in another continent and by fate becomes the husband of Otomi, the daughter of the Aztec emperor Montezuma, with whom he witnesses the sunset days of that civilization.
