Agatangeghos’ History of the Conversion of Armenia (4th century) is one of the classical works of Armenian literature. It recounts the historical events surrounding the introduction of Christianity into Armenia and its adoption as a state religion in 301 AD, when Armenia became the first Christian nation in the world.

These events profoundly influenced the consolidation of Armenian cultural and national identity and played an important role in the spread of Christianity globally.

The work gained international recognition already in the Middle Ages. To date, nearly twenty versions of the text are known in nine languages: Armenian, Greek, Syriac, Arabic, Latin, Geʽez (Ethiopic), Georgian, Coptic (fragmentary), and Slavic.
