The chrestomathy has been compiled in accordance with the subject curriculum of the general education school of the Republic of Armenia and is intended for teachers and 7th-grade students. It includes both required and additional works by Armenian and foreign authors — prose and poetry pieces for extracurricular reading, as well as excerpts from longer works.

Each author’s section begins with an epigraph chosen from the author’s own sayings and a portrait. Presented are quotations dedicated to the author, the Armenian people, Armenia, the Armenian language and literature, as well as evaluations of the author by prominent Armenian and foreign figures.
