Tarzan of the Apes is the first book in the series of twenty-two novels about Tarzan, the ape-man, created by American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875–1950). It tells the story of John Greystoke, the son of an English nobleman, from the moment of his birth to his eventual encounter with civilization. Under the influence of unexpected love, he gradually transforms into a true gentleman.
At the same time, the author skillfully depicts the political climate of the era, offering a detailed and vivid portrayal of the strange yet unique life of the African jungle. He also presents the habits and emotional world of the anthropoid apes, as well as the customs and way of life of the natives.
