The first printed Armenian book, Urbatagirk (The Friday Book), was published in Venice in 1512 by Hakob Meghapart. A landmark in Armenian cultural history, Urbatagirk combines both spiritual and secular content, comprising seven quires and six individual sheets. It was printed in a distinctive circular Armenian script, using two-color printing—red and black—on a blue-tinted background.

The book features a collection of prayers in verse, writs of protection, a chapter from The Book of Lamentations by Grigor Narekatsi, The Prayer of Cyprianos of Antioch, and The Story of the Virgin of Justinian. Historically, Urbatagirk, along with Narekatsi’s Book of Lamentations, was used as a source of healing prayers against illness.

To mark the 500th anniversary of Armenian printing, Edit Print Publishing House has released a high-quality facsimile edition of this original masterpiece. The book is presented in a specially designed souvenir box, honoring the enduring legacy of Armenian typography.
